MKM Chelmsford has recently joined forces with a World Cup winning footballer to raise more than £3,500 for a children’s charity.
Mark Ward and Allan Davis, branch directors at MKM Building Supplies, in Springfield, organised a fundraising night at Chelmsford Football Club for Thundersley-based children’s hospice, Little Havens.
Guest speaker during the evening was ex-West Ham and Tottenham midfielder Martin Peters, who spoke of his career highlights, including scoring the second goal in the 1966 World Cup final for England.
A total of £3,665 was raised through the event for the charity, which was chosen by the branch directors as MKM Chelmsford’s charity of the year.
Mark Ward said: “We wanted to become associated with a local charity and Little Havens is such a fantastic and worthwhile cause that they were the standout option for us.
“We were so pleased at how well the evening went and that we raised an amazing £3,660 for the hospice. We were also delighted to have Martin Peters as our special guest.”
Grant Peters, a community fundraiser for Little Havens said “It’s great to see a business supporting its local children’s hospice. I can’t wait to see what MKM comes up with next.
“The care we provide at Little Havens is free of charge, so we rely on our dedicated supporters to help us raise the £46,000 we need each week to care for children from across Essex who have a life-limiting illness and their families.
“MKM’s generosity is helping us to make a real difference to their lives.”
