Two team members from MKM Hexham are busy training for a charity challenge that will see them trek to the top of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak. The trek will take place from the 12th-14th July 2013 and is in aid of Josie’s Dragonfly Trust, MKM Hexham’s adopted charity.
The MKM charity trekkers who have stepped up to the challenge are Branch Director, Derek Telfer and Sarah Telfer. Derek and Sarah have never attempted to climb a mountain before so are busy training by taking long walks.
Josie’s Dragonfly Trust helps to brighten the lives of children and young people living with cancer. It was set up in the name of a young girl called Josie, who suffered with leukaemia and stopped treatment so she could enjoy the precious time she had left with her family. Sarah comments:
“When we first read about Josie, her story touched all of our hearts at the branch, and we knew straight away that we wanted to do something to help. When we got in touch with the team at the trust, they suggested we take part in one of their treks to help raise funds. So, Derek and I signed up to climb Ben Nevis, which we can’t wait to do! It will be hard work but worth it to help young cancer patients to create some special memories.”
The money Derek and Sarah raise by completing their trek will help Josie’s Dragonfly Trust to support approximately 100 young children suffering with cancer every year. The trust works alongside Clic Sargent and Macmillan teams in children’s cancer hospitals and units. When one of their patients is given the devastating news their treatment is no longer curative, the trust supplies funds to give the youngster the chance to do something special. In the past they’ve helped children to complete bucket lists, make fun trips and decorate bedrooms.
We wish Derek and Sarah the best of luck with their charity challenge! If you would like to support them, visit their JustGiving page.
