We’re Independent Builders’ Merchants of the Year Finalists

We’re delighted to be named a finalist in the Independent Builders’ Merchants of the Year (21+ branches) Award at one of the industry’s biggest awards; the Builders’ Merchants Awards for Excellence 2018. On top of that three MKM branches have been shortlisted for four separate awards, an incredible achievement in what has been an extraordinary year for the business.

MKM Perth is a finalist in the Timber Merchant of the Year Award for its impressive timber offering, and adapting to customer demands, whilst MKM Leamington Spa has been shortlisted for Hard Landscaping Display of the Year, for transforming a nondescript strip of land into a stunning landscaping display.

We’re especially proud of  two MKM employees who have been shortlisted for individual awards.

Firstly, Jo Thomas, Business Development Manager at MKM Hull, has been shortlisted in the Women in Merchanting Award. The Hull branch has topped the MKM sales league for the past 12 years she has worked there, and in the last 18 months alone Jo has created 241 new accounts, including a new client building the most prestigious hotel in Hull, and created sales growth of 29%. Not only that, she instigated and designed a new Customer Relationship Management system to track critical sales metrics and is the go-to advisor to other branch’s new business development and sales managers, often women, to drive sales with a customer first mentality. Go Jo!

Meanwhile Barry Stuart, Branch Director at the Perth branch, has been shortlisted for Achiever of the Year. In late 2017 Barry was promoted to Director position and in the last 18 months he has implemented a number of initiatives including creating a new roofing superstore; partnering with a manufacturer to deliver roofing training to drive sales, a model which has been rolled out at MKM branches nationwide, and securing a deal with Symphony, manufacturers of Laura Ashley kitchens, making his branch the only stockists in Scotland.

One customer said of Barry:

“I have been dealing with Barry for five years and he’s genuinely one of the good guys. He really cares that I get my deliveries when I need them, with everything that I ordered. As the owner of the company who also works on the tools that’s really important for my productivity and has helped my business no end.”

The awards take place on 23rd November, at the London Hilton Hotel, keep an eye out on our Facebook and Twitter pages to see if we win!
