Redcar residents treated to sand sculpture spectacular for 4th year in a row

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Kick off the Summer event took place on Redcar beach front.

The annual event is organised by the Friends of Redcar community group, with sand donated by MKM Building Supplies Redcar and Tarmac for the 4th year in a row.

Other events over the weekend included a vintage photographer, vintage market, Peaky Blinder’s theme bar and singalongs.

Sand artists came from SandsculptureUK, based around Europe, to create large sculptures on a theme commemorating the end of the First World War.

A sand cenotaph was created which became a focal point of a parade by the Royal British Legion, and other sculptures celebrated the Biggles’ books, written by author WE Johns who was local to Redcar.
