New standards for domestic boiler installations from April 2018

What’s changing?

Every boiler fitted must have a minimum efficiency standard of 92% ErP, and each installation must include a thermostat and timer.

For each installation of a gas combi boiler, an additional energy efficient measure must be fitted. You must choose one of the 4 options below:

Why?

The Government has committed to lowering its CO2 emissions by 80% before 2050. The Boiler Plus policy helps to reduce fuel consumption, meaning that household bills will fall and carbon emissions will be reduced.

When?

The new standards will apply in England when a combination gas boiler is installed from April 2018.

What will happen if the new standards are not met?

Installers who fail to install boilers in line with these new building regulations will be breaking the law and could be prosecuted by Building Control. The Gas Safe Register can also refer safety concerns to the Heath and Safety Executive.

Homeowners who knowingly allow non-compliant work to be carried out could also face prosecution and fines of up to £5,000.

How can MKM help you to prepare?

In England, one of the following options must be fitted after April 2018…

Flue Gas Heat Recovery | Weather Compensation | Load Compensation | Smart Controls
