It’s the 11th National Apprenticeship Week and we’re celebrating the great work our apprentices do in our branches, and discovering why they decided to choose to train while on the job in the busy builders’ merchants industry.
We spoke to Kira, our Sales Apprentice working from MKM Sheffield South, to find out how she’s getting on so far on her apprenticeship journey.

What’s your favourite thing about your apprenticeship so far?
My favourite things about my apprenticeship so far are talking to customers and going on site visits so that I can see the progress that is being made on the site I’m supplying materials to. I’m constantly learning something new.
Would you recommend applying for an apprenticeship to others?
I would recommend it, because it give you a chance learn and earn a living, and to see if you’re going to like the job.

I communicate with customers, work on quotes and schedules, serve customers, take orders, set terms and make sure that customers are 100% satisfied with the service that they receive.
What would you say is the main advantage of your apprenticeship?
The main advantage of my apprenticeship is that I can gain the knowledge I need for working in sales and learn how to handle different situations.
