Your kitchen is one of the main rooms in your home where you can make sustainable choices. From sustainable kitchen materials to energy-efficient appliances, there are plenty of ways to lower your kitchen’s carbon footprint. Here are a few of our favourite ways that you could make your kitchen more eco-friendly:

Start with your kitchen units

Your kitchen units are probably the first thing you will think about when updating or installing a new kitchen and we have a wide range of sustainable kitchen units that will help you be more environmentally conscious. Our 100% recycled chipboard range is the perfect choice for those looking for a more sustainable option. Check out some of our collections below:

Perfect for creating a dramatic look or giving a neutral décor a modern twist, our Turin kitchen collection is made from 100% recycled chipboard. Available in Dark Walnut, Dark Stone, Hunter Green and Charcoal, there is something to suit all tastes.

Our Hacienda collection is designed to suit the modern home and perfectly suits city living with crisp colours and contemporary woodgrains. Available in Light Driftwood and Grey Driftwood, the natural colours offer a minimalist and simple design option.

The Urban collection is inspired by cosmopolitan city living. Available in Grey Walnut and Concrete, this collection is subtly textured and will co-ordinate well with other grey finishes and pallets. Concrete effect is perfect for creating a modern style with an industrial feel and will suit a variety of design schemes.

Finally, the Form collection creates a stunning industrial style kitchen that can be combined with a timber work surface for a welcoming feel. Available in Matt Concrete, Matt Grey Walnut, Light Driftwood Grained and Grey Driftwood Grained, it is hard to resist the simplicity of these stunning designs.

Think organic worktops!

Natural organic materials such as stone, granite and hardwood are ideal for worktops and are an eco-friendly choice when it comes to your kitchen. The Silestone and Dekton Solid Surface worktops by Consentino, for example, are not only made from natural materials, but they are also ethically sourced.

Stone and granite worktops are durable, easy-to-clean, stain and scratch resistant and can be used to create a beautiful, hard-wearing workspace to cook on. Manufactured from 100% solid wood, our timber and oak worktops are available in an array of standard thicknesses, lengths, widths and families of woods to suit any design – modern or traditional.

Energy ratings and what to look for

Appliances are tested for how much energy they use during a typical period of use. This gives them a rating of A-G. A is the most Efficient and G is the least on the scale. Make sure to check the appliances energy label, which have been recently updated to make it easier to understand, and aim to find an appliance with the best energy rating for the size you need. Here are some of our most popular energy saving appliances that can help you reduce both your bills and the carbon footprint of your kitchen:

With precise dosing to the nearest millimetre, Bosch i-DOS washing machines use 30% less detergent and can save up to 10 litres of water per cycle.

Bosch PerfectDry dishwashers offer a clever function which saves energy by using natural minerals in Bosch’s Zeolith technology to dry everything to perfection.

A VitaFresh Bosch fridge creates the ideal environment to keep your food fresh for longer and avoid food waste. No more soggy lettuces or floppy carrots!

NEFF appliances don’t just look good, but they do good too! Using CircoTherm technology, NEFF ovens allow you to cook three dishes on three levels all at the same time and their dishwashers consume less water and electricity, especially when you use the eco programme setting.

Light your space

LED lighting can help reduce your energy usage in your kitchen and can be used to provide task lighting, such as over preparation areas and under cupboards, as well as general space lighting. They use significantly less energy than traditional bulbs, last significantly longer, and won’t flicker or get hot – what’s not to like?

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

Recycling has become a daily activity for many of us. However, when we are in a rush, we may not take the time to separate our waste properly. This is where our built-in kitchen recycling bins could help as the various compartments allow you to sort your waste as you go.

It’s not just waste that you can recycle! Don’t scrap your old kitchen. Use the ‘Used Kitchen Exchange’ for a responsible and sustainable way to get rid of your old kitchen. The Used Kitchen Exchange will then sell on your old kitchen so that you have more to put towards your brand new MKM kitchen. Kitchens for Sale UK - Great Savings from the Used Kitchen Exchange
