Your Glasgow Directors

Lee Smith

Lee has more than 25 years’ experience in the builders’ merchant industry. He has spent his whole career in the industry, from working on the counter to the sales office, sales manager, sales director, and now branch director. Although originally from Kent, he moved up to Scotland 21 years ago and has worked in Glasgow ever since.

MKM Glasgow is the first independent merchant in the city for over 20 years, it has made great inroads to the local builders’ merchant market and is now ready to go to the next level.

"Before MKM set up in Glasgow the city was in need of an independent, but MKM is an independent with a difference. It is a premium independent, in many ways the fifth national but with a strong customer-centric focus. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with MKM, particularly in my adopted city where I have spent so much of my working life.

There is a great team in place in the branch and a real buzz when you walk in. That is our advantage; great people and great customer service."

Allen Turnbull

Allen joins our Glasgow branch with a wealth of experience behind him. With over 30 years in the industry and a background as a director at an independent building and timber merchants before joining MKM, Allen is sure to employ his expertise in timber and sheet materials while helping our customers.

In his spare time, Allen is a keen golfer and follows rugby and cricket, having played both sports for many years. And at work, he enjoys the experience of a large and busy branch with plans for further growth.

John Innes

John arrives at MKM Glasgow with almost half a century of experience behind him. He previously worked at a building and timber merchant as managing director, helping them to reach a turnover of £8m per annum. When given the opportunity to join MKM Glasgow, John decided to take the chance to finish his career on a potential ultimate high, by working to help the branch grow to its full potential.

John played semi-professional football for 14 years and keeps in touch with many friends from that career. This positive and friendly attitude has impacted on his time at MKM so far as well, where one of the things he has most appreciated has been the support network of so many great people who are all pulling together – a “family feeling,” as John puts it.
