Bishop Auckland: Yard/Warehouse Apprentice

You will join MKM as a trainee Yard/Warehouse Assistant and we will support you through your training to gain your Apprenticeship.

The role will be based in the yard/warehouse; therefore, your training will be based around the variety of products that we stock as well as the warehousing and distribution practices you will be involved in. You will also spend time working in other areas within the branch to ensure you gain a full understanding of the business. Over time there may also be the opportunity for you to progress into other roles within the business if you have the potential, skills and attitude, including an internal role on the sales desk.

We have been recruiting apprentices for serval years and a number of our top performing trainees have now taken up senior roles within the business. We are continually expanding so the opportunity is there for you to carve out a career with the largest independent builder’s merchants, if you have the drive and determination to succeed.

Unlike some apprenticeships, which pay the apprenticeship rate and may not result in employment upon completion, here at MKM we will pay you the minimum wage from day one and the position is a permanent one.

In return we are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the desire and potential to learn quickly and develop a career with MKM. Whilst GCSEs are not essential reasonable grades, Grade C and above would be helpful. In addition, you should be smartly presented, confident and have a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

In this role you will work as part of our external team of staff. Duties will include assisting customers, providing excellent customer service, loading and unloading vehicles, picking and checking orders, storing stock safely and maintaining a tidy and safe working environment.

A Counterbalance Forklift license would be advantageous for this role but not essential as training can be provided. Building material/ builders merchant industry knowledge would also be advantageous.

You will be working within a small close-knit team and will be dealing with our customers on a daily basis, so we are looking for someone that has the likeability factor, someone that our customers will look forward to seeing knowing that they will always receive excellent customer service. You will also be required to be hard working, have a positive attitude and pay attention to detail.

Crewe: HGV Driver

In this role you will be responsible for multi drop deliveries to customers in the surrounding area, providing top quality customer service.

The role involves driving the Class 2 HGV vehicle, therefore you will need a Class 2 licence, digital tachograph card and up to date CPC training. HIAB certification and experience would be desirable for this role.

For this position, the candidate must have knowledge of the building industry and building products.

As a driver you are the face of MKM to many of our customers and as such you should be of smart appearance and have a positive, friendly and helpful manner. You should also be enthusiastic, hardworking and have a positive attitude.

Dereham: Salesperson

In this position, you will play a key role in the sale of our full range of building supplies products.

Duties will include providing quotations for customers, purchasing materials and managing stock levels. In addition to dealing with customers that come into the branch and approach you, you should also be committed to taking a proactive approach to building product sales and use every opportunity to make or increase a sale.

Sound building supplies product knowledge is essential for this role. The successful candidate should also have previous sales experience in a builders merchant environment.

In addition, we are looking for someone who is confident, outgoing, has the ability to build and develop great customer relationships, a good telephone manner and must be computer literate.

Dereham: Sales Representative

In this position, you will play an instrumental role in the growth and development of the branch, we are therefore looking for a talented, experienced and dedicated candidate to help drive the business forward.

Working as part of the external sales team, the main aim of this role will be to identify new business opportunities, promoting MKM as their supplier of choice and converting this into regular business.

In addition, you will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with existing customers and ensuring they continue to receive great customer service. You will predominantly work in and around the Norfolk area and will be required to take a pro-active approach to visiting existing and potential customers, building lasting relationships and exceeding their expectations. In all dealings with customers you will be expected to use every opportunity to maximise sales and margin.

Previous experience of working in a similar position within the industry is essential for this role. We would also expect the successful candidate to have excellent product knowledge of a good range of building, plumbing and timber products. In additional you must be an excellent negotiator, confident and enthusiastic.

Edinburgh: Sales Advisor – Joinery Products

In this position, you will play a key role in the sale of our full range of Joinery products.

Sound joinery product knowledge is essential for this role. The successful candidate should also have previous sales experience in a joinery sales environment.

In addition, we are looking for someone who is confident, outgoing, has the ability to build and develop great customer relationships, a good telephone manner and must be computer literate.

Galashiels: Kitchen Sales Designer

Kitchens are an element of what we currently offer at our Galashiels branch, and is an area with great potential for development and growth.

We are looking for an experienced person to drive this part of the business forward.

Choosing a new kitchen is a big decision for our customers, therefore you will need to get to know them, listen to their needs and work with them every step of the way to ensure their requirements are met. You will identify and recommend the products that best suit their needs, paying close attention to detail and ensuring customer satisfaction every time.

In addition to visitors to our showroom you will need to possess the drive and confidence to pro-actively generate new business. You should have previous experience in a similar role and a proven track record of achievement.

You should also have experience of ‘20-20 Fusion’ planning software, or similar, and be able to demonstrate your sound product knowledge of kitchen products. In addition to your product knowledge you should possess a genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service.

You will also be required to make multi-drop deliveries to customers in the surrounding area, this will require driving the HGV Class 2 vehicles as the business requires.

It is vital therefore that you possess a Class 2 driving licence. A counterbalance forklift truck licence and HIAB certification would also be useful for this role.

You will be working within a small close knit team and will be dealing with our customers daily. You will therefore need to have the likeability factor and be the person that our customers will look forward to seeing, knowing that they will always receive excellent customer service. You will also be required to be enthusiastic, hardworking and have a positive attitude.
