Boiler Scrappage Scheme

The government has launched a boiler scrappage scheme to persuade households in England with the least energy efficient heating systems to upgrade them.

A £400 discount is on offer to those that do.

Domestic heating accounts for 14% of the UK's CO2 emissions and the government has set ambitious targets for reducing them. According to the Energy Saving Trust there are about 3.5m homes in England with the least efficient type of boiler (G-rated). Upgrading these will help reduce emissions.
 
To qualify you must live in England and be either a homeowner or a private tenant. Landlords of multiple properties can apply, as long as each voucher is assigned to a different property. The scheme is not open to Registered Social Landlords and housing associations as they are covered by alternative schemes such as the government's Decent Homes programme.

If you are under 60 the boiler needs to be in working order and be the main source of heat for the home. If you are over 60 you can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler works or not. However, it still needs to be the main boiler used to heat the home.
