MKM Anlaby builds on over ten years of success
Over the past decade, our Anlaby branch has been a firm favourite with tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts in the west of Hull and is set to finish this year in style with the completion of a £1M refurbishment programme. From 3rd December 2011, the re-built branch will house a revamped product range with over 500 new lines and a state of the art kitchen, bathroom and tile showroom.

The refurbishment, undertaken by local construction company George Houlton & Sons, was started on the 1st March 2011. In just eight months, MKM Anlaby has been completely transformed to help offer a faster, more efficient service to its growing customer base.

The branch, based on Springfield Way, has extended its offering with more yard space, a larger trade counter and an extended product range across all areas including paint, screws, fixings, tools and plaster. Customer feedback has been essential in the refurbishment of MKM Anlaby and Branch Director, Ian Pratt, has listened to his customers’ suggestions every step of the way to ensure it delivers. He explains:

“We’re keen to enhance the customer experience, so we’ve used their feedback to tailor the branch layout to maximise speed of service and minimise queues in the shop as well as the yard.

“They will be able to come in, and be served efficiently to ensure they’re back out on their site, in no time at all. We have more space for parking and a much larger product range so we truly can be a one stop shop for all plumbing, joinery and landscaping needs.”

Thanks to a dedicated and enthusiastic team, customer demand has out-stretched the branch, since it first opened in 2000. Luckily, the space was available on site to rebuild the branch to service the demand in the local area. Since the branch opened in 2000, the team has grown from 4 to 25 local product specialists, and the branch has an impressive transport fleet offering free local delivery.

Ian Pratt continues: “We made the decision to overhaul the branch as our premises no longer matched the service we provided, and as a result, we are now able to offer so much more! Our trade customers are well catered for, as are our retail customers with our new bathroom, kitchen and tile showroom. We have also introduced a free design service where we visit the customer’s home to help plan their interior design project – this really sets us apart from the competition.”

The refurbishment of MKM Anlaby is part of a multi-million pound expansion plan by MKM. We are investing £20M in the company by opening new branches throughout the country, in addition to building new headquarters on Stoneferry Road in Hull. MKM is currently the UK’s largest independent builders merchant and we pride ourselves on having an ethos of ‘local people, serving local people’.

Ian concludes: “We’d like to thank our customers for their patience during the building work. We consider them all to be friends and have great relationships with them which have helped the process run smoothly. We’ve been really busy over the past year and hopefully our newly built premises will help us to grow upon this success over years to come.
