MKM London Marathon team raises £10,000 for charity
On the 17th April 2011, six members of the MKM team took part in the London Marathon and managed to raise a fantastic £10,000 for charity!

The money raised went to ‘Shelter’, a charity that helps those who are homeless or living in bad housing to find a decent home.

The 26 mile course starts at Greenwich and finishes at The Mall, attracting thousands of spectators and over 36,500 runners each year. The fantastic atmosphere spurred on our group of MKM staff and motivated them to make it to the finish line!

MKM Finance Director, Mark Smith, was one of our runners and thoroughly enjoyed the event, as he explains: “Even though this was my fifth time running the London marathon, it was still as exciting as the first! Taking part in such an important event is so humbling and it’s fantastic to raise money for such a supportive charity.

“Every member of our group finished in excellent times - between 4.5 hours - 6 hours. It was a great day and was very rewarding to know that you’re helping out a charity that does such good work!”

Geoff Ullyott, Director of our Driffield branch, also took part in the race, as he explains: “After a year of strenuous training at the gym and out on the road, I’m glad to say I’ve finally run my first London Marathon – it’s something everybody should do at least once in their life! It’s been an ambition of mine for many years and I can finally say that I’ve been able to achieve it. There’s no denying, it was very hard, but also extremely uplifting!”

At MKM, we are very proud of the team members that took part and are delighted that such a large amount of money was raised for a very worthy cause.
